Flavors of a Diet Shake
If you’re evaluating a diet shake as part of your over-all weight loss diet plan, you’ll probably want to know what diet shake types are offered, the flavors available, and how the shakes will taste.
Does a diet shake help to lose weight quicker?
- Slim Fast is the most common diet shake available on the market today. Its plan allows for a shake at breakfast, lunch, and then a normal dinner. The problem with the Slim Fast plan is that the calorie limit is set so low that it can be bad for any long-term goal of weight loss. Each shake only contains around 250 calories, add in the shakes and regular meal, and you are likely to be only consuming 1,300 calories a day. It seems reasonable that reducing calories is the key to weight loss, but when you reduce too many, you are experiencing one of Slim Fast’s biggest problems!
- The Medifast brand diet has been around for a number of decades, and at one time only available via physicians. Medifast offers a stable of meal replacement products. All of them generally formulated to be low-calorie and low-fat diet, and containing the optimum levels of vitamins. The problem is that the Medifast 5 and 1 plan costs $275 for 4 weeks! In today’s economy, the goal is to spend less!
- The Atkins Ready-To-Drink Shakes offers the Atkins Advantage by satisfying your appetite for an on-the-go taste and nutrition around the clock. They can be used as a replacement meal, or for just a pick-me-up. The problem here is that 4 cans, of 11 ounces each, cost $10.99. By the end of the month, you will have spent over $82 by just drinking one can per day.
- The Ultralife Diet Shake is a way to start losing weight. It contains the finest ingredients, tastes great and is a very
effective way to satisfy your hunger using this diet shake. It works as a weight loss program or a calorie controlled diet. It is perfectly balanced to ensure you receive all the nutrients you need to achieve optimum health. The problem is the Ultralife Diet Shake cannot be purchased in stores. You have to become their member, and the cost for a 30 diet shake case is $38.95.

oz serving, it contains a full serving of vegetables plus a full serving of fruits, no sugar or high fructose corn syrup added, and no artificial color, flovors or preservatives were added. A diet shake is about restricting Calories only, and, at that, only carefully and moderately. It is not about restricting food! This is why it’s called the “High-Low Diet”: high all nutrients except calories. What nutritionist care about is getting the most “bang for the buck” from the foods you drink and eat.
How does one reduce or control appetite or otherwise adhere to a diet shake?
Some of the most time-tested ways of controlling hunger and sticking with your goals are:
-
Filling up on bulky foods which are high in nutrients but low in Calories — such as most vegetables and fruits
-
Choosing carbohydrates with a low glycemic index (GI) — a measure of how quickly a food releases sugar into your blood stream. Most starchy foods and dried fruits have high glycemic indexes, while most vegetables and fruits are low-GI.
-
Adding a little fat to a meal or a diet shake lowers the GI and releases satiety hormones, which can help control appetite. On the other hand, fat is a very Calorie-dense nutrient. Experiment with your diet to find the right the balance for you.
-
Identify “problem” foods and either do not keep them around, or buy a specific, small amount each week to enjoy at a pre-determined time, as a reward for sticking to your eating plan
-
Preparing and/or planning several days of meals and diet shakes ahead of time
-
Adhering to a daily meal and diet shake schedule
-
Eat your foods raw or only minimally cooked
-
Enjoy your food: take the time to savor each bite and chew thoroughly before swallowing
-
